A Milestone Study
In a milestone study, researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have harnessed the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the assessment of the heart’s right ventricle, which sends blood to the lungs.
Conducted by a team using AI-enabled electrocardiogram (AI-ECG) analysis, the research demonstrates that ECGs can effectively predict right-side heart issues, offering a simpler alternative to complex imaging technologies and potentially enhancing patient outcomes.
The findings were described in a paper titled “Quantitative Prediction of Right Ventricular Size and Function From the ECG,” published in the December 29 online issue of Journal of the American Heart Association.

Statins for Frail Elderly
Two retrospective studies argue against the practice of basing decisions about statins on age, frailty, or chronic kidney disease. Ariela R. Orkaby, MD, MPH, coauthor of both studies, says statins should not be deprescribed in the elderly except at the very end of life. TCTMD reports on the findings.
Light Therapy and Alzheimer’s Disease
New research suggests that light therapy may mitigate symptoms of Alzheimer’s, such as sleep disorders and mood issues. Health reports on a meta-analysis of 15 randomized controlled trials published in Plos One.

MedCityNews looks at the problem and what can be done to turn the tide.
The Need for a Clearer View of Super Agers
While it’s important to be able to understand and identify outstanding cognitive abilities in older adults, discrepancies in research approaches cloud the issue. Medical Xpress looks at new research pointing toward the need for increased clarity. |
